FAQ
What defines a VAS Audio Portable System?
A VAS Audio Portable System is a professional 4-way sound system built for mobility. Each system combines subwoofers, upper bass enclosures, and kick-tops with integrated mid and high-frequency sections in a compact format that can be easily transported, assembled, and operated by one person. Unlike the common 3-way configurations used in most portable systems, the 4-way architecture separates the low and upper bass ranges, creating greater control, headroom, and musical precision. This additional upper bass element ensures smoother frequency transition, tighter low-end response, and a more balanced sound field, allowing every detail of the music to remain clear even at high output levels. The result is touring-grade performance in a form designed for independence, accuracy, and emotional connection through sound.
What is the difference between the Simba and Faya Series?
Simba and Faya share the same construction philosophy and sound system aesthetic inspired by traditional sound systems. Both are built from 15 mm WISA® birch plywood, cut with ultra-precise CNC technology, and equipped with heavy-duty, high-quality drivers chosen for clarity, control, and power within their size class. The result is a sound that remains warm, deep, and dynamic, yet precise enough for professional performance, the essence of true sound system culture refined for modern mobility.
The difference lies in scale and purpose. Simba uses 10-inch drivers, creating a compact system that delivers fast transient response, tight low-end, and a focused projection ideal for smaller gatherings, home setups, and mobile DJ use. Faya uses 12-inch drivers for extended low frequencies, greater headroom, and wider dispersion, offering more presence and authority for open-air sessions, venues, and professional crews who need higher output.
Can I play Simba or Faya in stereo mode?
Simba and Faya are passive systems that require external amplification to operate. This approach gives DJs and sound operators full control over limiting, power handling, and system dynamics, allowing precise adjustment for different environments and performance styles.
Both systems are designed as mono setups, following traditional sound system configuration. To run them in stereo, a 6-channel amplifier is required, as the kick-tops need dedicated left and right channels for proper signal separation. In standard mono configuration, one Simba amplifier can power up to four bass enclosures, while one Faya amplifier can power up to two.
If you plan to expand your Faya setup to four bass enclosures or move your Simba or Faya to a stereo configuration, an additional amplifier is required. This ensures correct power distribution across all frequency bands and the same level of tonal precision that defines the Simba and Faya sound.
What kind of events are VAS portable systems designed for?
VAS portable systems are designed for high-quality sound in compact, transport-friendly setups.
Typical use cases include:
- sound system sessions
- outdoor gatherings
- small festivals
- bars and listening spaces
- mobile DJ setups
- community events
- cultural events and pop-up venues
Systems like Simba and Faya are engineered to deliver powerful, musical bass and wide sound dispersion, while remaining compact enough for easy transport and setup by small crews.
Coverage depends on the configuration and environment.
Generally:
- Simba Systems are ideal for home use, smaller gatherings, and mobile sound systems up to 80 people.
- Faya Systems are designed for larger crowds and higher output situations up to 150 people.
For specific event sizes or deployment advice, we recommend contacting us before ordering so we can help determine the best configuration for your needs.
What kind of system packages or bundles do you offer?
We offer three different 4-Way System packages designed for different levels of use and setup flexibility.
- Speakers Only: Includes Subwoofers, Upper Bass, and Kick-Tops. This configuration is ideal for those who already own amplification, cabling, and processing equipment and only require the enclosures.
- Complete Bundle: A ready-to-use plug-and-play system that includes one designated amplifier matched to either the Simba or Faya system, a 15-meter cable set with four main cables and four patch cables, and pre-configured DSP presets for the amplifier. The signal routing and frequency management are optimized for all four bands, ensuring balanced response and maximum efficiency. This configuration is designed for DJs, event organizers, and sound system operators who want professional results without additional setup or tuning.
- Outdoor Bundle: Includes everything from the Complete Bundle, plus the VAS Outdoor Transformer FS4000D, an outdoor power transformer for stable operation on external battery power. This setup ensures full system performance in off-grid conditions, maintaining reliable sound quality and driver protection wherever the music takes you.
How portable are the systems really?
The systems are designed for true mobility. Their compact size allows one person to transport the entire setup in a standard car without the need for truck rental, storage space, or additional crew. Each enclosure is engineered with balanced weight distribution, integrated handles, and precise dimensions that make loading, stacking, and setup simple and fast.
A single operator can move, assemble, and play the full system alone, saving both time and cost while maintaining professional performance standards. This independence is what defines the Simba and Faya philosophy. A powerful, full-range sound system that can travel anywhere music needs to be heard.
Do you offer support for setup?
Yes. Every purchase includes a 1-on-1 technical support call to guide you through the setup process. Our team helps you connect, configure, and align your system step by step, ensuring everything runs exactly as intended. We stay with you through the first power-up and sound check, right up to the moment you drop your first tune on the system.
You will need to prepare for the call:
- A PC laptop (Mac laptops are not compatible; this is a one-time setup process).
- A LAN cable to connect the amplifier to your PC.
- Make sure your laptop has a LAN cable input; if not, prepare an adapter or hub with a LAN cable input.
- Download the amplifier software and the Simba or Faya presets from our Support Center.
Once everything is ready, we’ll guide you through each step until your system is fully configured and ready to perform.
What finish options are available?
VAS portable systems are available in three finishes:
- Raw Finish: Natural birch plywood without coating.
- Clear Coating: A protective clear varnish that highlights the natural wood grain while protecting the cabinet.
- Vintage Oak: A warm oak stain combined with a clear protective coating on top, giving the system a more classic, furniture-grade appearance.
All finishes are applied by hand in our workshop.
Does the system include amplification?
VAS portable systems are passive speaker systems, which means they require external amplification and signal processing.
Depending on the configuration, we offer two options:
- Presets Only: You receive the DSP preset files optimized for the system. These can be used with compatible professional amplifiers.
- Complete Bundle: A plug-and-play solution that includes a DSP amplifier, system presets, and required cables. This option allows you to run the system immediately after setup without additional configuration.
What is the production time after I place an order?
All VAS Audio portable systems and enclosures are made to order in our Cologne workshop.
We do not keep finished systems in stock.
The estimated production time is 12–14 weeks.
Each cabinet is handcrafted and assembled with precision using high-quality birch plywood and professional audio components. Because of this manufacturing process, minor variations in finish may occur, which are a natural result of handcrafted production.
Once your order is confirmed, your system is placed into our production schedule. Manufacturing begins when it reaches its allocated production slot.
Production timelines are based on current workshop capacity and component availability, and may vary depending on order volume.
By placing an order, you acknowledge and accept this made-to-order production process and timeline structure.
