For many people involved in sound system culture, owning a system of their own is not something that happens overnight. It usually begins as an idea that slowly grows over years of attending sessions, festivals, and dances.
For Cristian from Bass Resistance Crew in Zürich, that idea first appeared about five years ago.
Travelling through the European festival circuit and spending time at reggae and dub events, he experienced the energy that only large sound systems can create with a crowd. Those experiences gradually turned a simple fascination into a long-term goal with lots of planning and research in between, and with a clear ambition: one day running a system of his own.

The turning point came during Rototom Sunsplash, one of the world's most renowned reggae festivals. At the Solé Rototom SunBeach stage, Cristian encountered the VAS system for the very first time. Hearing it live left a strong impression. “I heard VAS Audio at Rototom Beach with their system, and I was really caught by that.”
That experience stayed with him. Not long after returning home, Cristian decided to reach out to us.
From First Contact to System Planning
After that, Cristian's sound journey with VAS Audio began with a simple email, and shortly afterwards, we scheduled a technical call with him. During that conversation, the discussion quickly moved beyond curiosity and into real system planning.
The call focused on defining the right setup by discussing:
the music genres he planned to play,
the types of events and festivals he expected to run,
audience sizes and venues,
amplification and technical configuration,
and budget options and delivery planning.
Rather than offering a single fixed proposal, several configuration options were discussed, allowing Cristian to choose the setup that best matched his plans. “We spoke about everything, the genres I want to play, how many people I expect at the festivals or parties, and about the budget. I got different options for different budgets. That made it really easy to choose the right option for me.” The result was a full VAS Carbon system, designed for powerful sound system sessions while remaining practical to operate and transport.

Building the System
Once the configuration was confirmed, the system entered production in Cologne. Throughout the process, Cristian remained in direct contact with the team, receiving updates and discussing technical details as the build progressed. Communication stayed open and direct, ensuring that everything was aligned before the final delivery. “I always felt really well taken care of,” Cristian emphasized.
When the system was ready, Cristian travelled to VAS Audio headquarters in Cologne for the first listening session. Together with the crew, he helped assemble the two stacks of the VAS Carbon system from the ground up, with scoops, kicks, tops, cabling, and amplification.
Despite the scale of the system, the setup process proved straightforward. Even with only two people assembling the stack, the system came together quickly and without complications. The design of the system made the process intuitive: cabinets stacked efficiently, cables connected easily, and the system was ready to run within a short time.

Powering the System
The system is fully powered by Full Fat Audio amplifiers, configured with DSP presets specifically prepared for the setup. This integration meant that once the amplifiers were connected, the system was immediately ready to play. “All the amplifiers are customized with presets, so it’s really easy to start the first session,” Cristian said to us.

During the session, multiple tracks across different genres were tested, allowing Cristian to hear how the system responded to a wide range of material. For the first listening session, Cristian selected tracks he knew extremely well, songs he had heard and played on many different systems before. This made the comparison immediate. When the first tune dropped through the full stack, the reaction was instant. “Amazing. It left me speechless for a while. I got goosebumps.”
Hearing familiar tracks through a system you now own creates a completely different experience. Even though Cristian had previously heard the VAS system at Rototom, standing in front of his own stack made the moment feel entirely new. The same sound that once inspired him at a festival was now something he would be responsible for running, building, and sharing with audiences. The listening experience suddenly carried much more meaning.

After years of imagining the moment, the Bass Resistance sound system is now ready to begin its journey in Zurich. Standing in our workshop in Cologne after the first listening session, the feeling for the crew was clear: “It feels amazing. A dream comes true.”
